The longer short story. (day 20)
What is true is I turned 70 years old recently, and have been mostly retired for the past 10 years.
What is also true is I have been getting back into business for about the past three months. I must be crazy!
After many years in business I “retired” to our mortgage-free home on an ocean cove where we docked our 36 foot Catalina Sailboat.
However, over the past 10 years, I have worked with one client consistently. Dave came to cut some trees on our property over 10 years ago and when he found out my previous career was business consulting he asked if I would work with him on Arbor Plant Health Care. After giving it some thought, I agreed. So I have been working with him and with his business since 2010.
Over the past 10 years I have dabbled in this and that; was on the board of a wind turbine company, a chamber of commerce and spent a lot of time “just smelling the roses” and taking sailing trips.
In 2020 on one such sailing trip while bringing our catamaran from the gulf coast of Florida to Nova Scotia, Covid19 struck. We left the boat in Deltaville Virginia and drove home. After getting out of quarantine and spending a few months “adjusting”, I started poking around again in the online world again. To cut to the chase, I decided to get back into consulting and coaching in an online format rather than in the in-person way I had been doing with Dave and with a few dozen clients before I retired.
After over 40 years in business, starting and running 6 different companies, first in the USA and then in Canada, and having spent over $30,000 in training learning to deliver to others what I have learned, It seems I may have something to offer.
I have delivered software projects of up to $900,000 and literally hundreds of smaller projects and have delivered services to such companies as McKinsey & Company in New York, the government of Canada, electric utilities, telephone companies, insurance companies and many other businesses both large and small and have employed well over a hundred people over the years.
The form, format and product of this new endeavour are still evolving or being discovered, but that is a much longer version of the story.
I am still researching and figuring things out. I have been taking a lot of courses and training and putting together a plan. I have also set up a Facebook group/community/tribe here. Prosperity — through ethical business. You can take a look and request to join if you are interested in weekly training sessions, articles, videos and conversations between people who want to develop or improve sustainable, ethical businesses.
Our “new” boat (we sold the Catalina and bought a Gemini) in a very nice card from some friends we met in Florida.
